Enjoy a friendly welcome and a fascinating journey into the past here at our museum. Based in a lovely historic Tudor building in Waltham Abbey and with free entry for all, you will find permanent displays of important finds from the district and a number of special exhibitions, as well as many family friendly resources for you to explore.

In addition to an interesting calendar of special events throughout the year, we have an extensive programme for both school and adult groups and many of our beautiful exhibitions are made available to schools, community groups and other museums to hire.

The museum is a welcoming, friendly place for families to enjoy spending time together. We have got lots of resources for families to use which will help them explore the mseum and get the most out of their visit.

For babies we have our treasure baskets. Toddlers love our explorer kits, jigsaws and the replica cooking stove, whilst older children can have fun dressing up in historical clothes or having a go at rag rug making. The museum has lots of fun interactivites for early years and older children including mammoth corner with toys and story books, museum explorer tools including hats, torches and magnifying glasses for young explorers to help them explore the collection, a replica Victorian stove with lots of food and cooking equipment to role play with, historical hats and costumes to try on
