Independent primary school help

We are looking to relocate back to the uk (from America) and my husband will be working in Canary wharf. We are looking for somewhere on the cross rail link that has excellent primary schools. We are looking at independent primary schools as a preference that has close links to a gramma school. Can any share with me the good and bad of schools in their areas to help us start our search? We have been recommended Shenfield and Brentwood in general but that is it so far.
