Not growing sufficiently

#1 Unread post by Kayleigh19 » Wed Jul 31, 2013 8:05 am

Hello, i wonder if you could enlighten me a little?

My sons birth was a difficult one, it was shoulder dystocia birth and told that my son had a high percentage of brain damage. This however never happened and he is a very smart little boy (now 4 1/2). We have kept a close eye on development due to this, he is under consultant for his growth as he has dropped 3 centiles and as my husband is 6ft2 he isnt growing as they would like. HE has an appointment tomorrow to see if they will test him for things or not as he now beow the 'red zone'.

I supposed my actual question is could a growth abnormality be due to potential brain damage at birth? Or could it have damaged the putuitry gland?

any insight would be most appreciated

Hi Kayleigh,
The short answer is brain damage can affect growth. if the area of brain damage has a role in growth then this could also affect normal development. Any structure in the brain can potentially be affected by a birth injury.

Kayleigh - it is good you are finally getting some answers! I hope the hormone test goes well. If you ever feel like a 'chat' - you can always join us on the daily thread in 'a bit of a chat'. We just share our days and thoughts and get to know each other and depend on each other.

I agree with Jenn, it's sometimes nice to just have a bit of a chat/vent. I hope the tests give you some answers and you can move forward with things.
