Gender Swaying

#1 Unread post by lea-marie » Mon Nov 12, 2012 4:41 pm

I have been looking into this a little, and find it intriguing... Do any of you ladies have any experience with swaying, or have you tried and failed/succeeded with a gender sway attempt?! What methods did you use or have you heard work well?!

I'm not entirely sure if I believe it, but I know that I would really like a boy when I fall (though obviously I would be just as happy with a girl!) and thought maybe Andy and I could try some of the methods out and see what happens...?!

I've heard that the only real way to make a difference (and even then it's pretty unpredicatable) is to do with the lifespan of sperm. I think it's that boy sperm have a shorter life and girl sperm a longer life, so the closer to ovulation you conceive, the more likely it is to be a boy. There's the shettles method too, which I think is to do with speed but has been mostly disproved.

With ours we didn't try either way but I think Felix and this baby were conceived close to ovulation and Iris a few days before (in fact about 3/4 days before so I thought we might have missed it), so I suppose we do fit the theory.

Helena wrote a really good article about it all actually: http://www.essexmums.org/ttc-gender.html

Yeah, I read Helena's piece, and it's more or less along the lines of what I know about it - was curious as to whether anyone had tried it...

I've seen the the Shettles method is mostly disproved, and to be honest, I'm not sure I'm organised enough for that! haha

Don't the male sperm also get lost if you try it from a different angle?

Did you expect any less with me back on here?! lol

But yes, certain positions put the sperm in certain places... Deeper penetrative sex puts the sperm closer to the cervix (which supposedly helps with swaying for a boy) and shallower penetrative sex puts the sperm lower down in the vagina (which supposedly helps to sway for a girl)... This combined with ovulation timing is supposed to be the most 'accurate' method.

This is totally going to be one of those *TMI* posts haha but when we tried for Brandon I used the strips so it would have been pretty close to ovulation that we 'did the deed', but afterwards i layed with my legs and bum up in the air as i read this increases your chances of conceiving as it gives the swimmers a helping hand getting to the womb. I conceived first time with the strips and doing this.
I guess this would help the lazy boy swimmers get to their destination too.

With Ruby it was the usual missionary with no efforts trying to get pregnant, or timing it or anything and im pretty certain it was a couple of days before ovulation. So again it makes sense in my case.

Boys lazy shorter life, girls faster and longer life.

We have conceived every time in exactly the same place in exactly the same position.

I do the 'legs in the air' thing, but never know how long to do it for!

We have stuck with the deeper penetration finishing positions (actually managed to say that with a straight face too!), and I have changed bits of my diet too, and followed my ovulation cycle.

Will continue the swaying for a wee lad, but I guess we shall see!

Just thought I'd follow this up now that we know the sex...

Whether or not the swaying played a part, we did conceive our little boy, so maybe there is something in it?! Who knows...

We did the swaying for a girl when I fell pregnant with Isla by dtd before I ovulated. My friends thought I was nuts when I told them what we were doing but it worked and we now have one of each.

Well when the time comes for baby number three (which the mister is very adamant on now!), we've said that we are happy to have either as we will already have one of each, so I may try to sway for a girl and see what happens?!

With Alexa and Nathan I concieved in the same position, but with Josh it was a different position.
Its more to do with when you are 'caught', female sperm can last in the body for 3-4 days + whereas boy sperm only 24-48 hours. Also sprem carries differing chromosones meaning your partner could only release boys or only girls.
Theres alot of factors and apart from timing your conception with when you ovulate, I dont think theres much you can actually do about it. (e.g. if you know you ovulate on day 14, you could have lots and lots of sex upto day 11 and then nothing at all and hope for a girl)
