Pregnancy and Baby Massage classes for parents to be

#1 Unread post by MassageMummy » Tue May 12, 2015 11:19 am

Pregnancy is a wonderful and exciting time, but it can bring discomfort and various ailments too. If you would like to learn how to ease the most common aches and pains of pregnancy, as well as some techniques that can help to relieve wind, constipation and colic in babies, and help them to settle at night too, please read on!

Our Parents-To-Be course will teach you massage techniques that can help to ease ailments and aches and pains such as backache, nausea, sciatica and oedema (swelling in the legs and arms). You will also learn which parts of the body must not be massaged during pregnancy, and which oils should be avoided.

The course also includes an introduction to baby massage; you will learn how to carry out the tummy routine, which is excellent for relieving wind, constipation and colic, and the back massage routine, which is soothing and relaxing. You practice on dolls, and handouts of the routines are provided so you'll be ready for when your little one arrives. We will also teach you how to recognise your baby’s cues and body language, how to help them settle at night, which massage oils to use and which to avoid, and when not to massage your baby.

You will need to bring a massage partner, as you practice on each other. Massage is carried out fully clothed and seated. Mums-to-be must be in the second trimester onwards and will need to complete a consultation form before starting the course, to ensure that massage is suitable for them. Places are limited to 5 couples per class, to ensure optimum client-instructor ratio.

Classes take place on Thursday evenings in the Romford branch of Mothercare. Private classes are also available; these take place in your home at times to suit you.
