First 14 Dayz

Antenatal classes with a difference

Parenthood can be tough, especially during the ‘First 14 Dayz’. When you are first at home with your newborn reality quickly sets in…………what do we do now?

No one can completely prepare you for the shock of being parents for the first time. What we want to do is provide you with first hand experience, giving you an honest insight into the typical things you will encounter and most importantly enable you to make your life a little easier.

Our workshops are run by mothers and offer honest and practical advice in an informal environment. The information is sourced from generations of mothers – stuff that will not always be available in books.

You are probably wondering: what sets us apart from other classes? From our experience traditional antenatal classes tend to concentrate heavily on the birth and not enough on what happens when you take your baby home. We aim to cover what happens ‘postnatally’ in those vital first two weeks whilst you are still ‘prenatal’.

Learn now what you can apply later.

Workshop
The workshop is one session that lasts for approximately 2.5 hours at a cost of £30.
We aim to provide you with practical advice, guidance and an in depth insight into those difficult ‘First 14 Dayz’.
We will cover a range of subjects that effect the mother, baby and partner for example;
- How to prepare yourself before the baby arrives
- Your time in hospital
- Feeding
- Sleep time
- Washing / dressing
We can also tailor the workshop if you are having an elected c-section or a home birth.
At the end of the workshop we give you a number of handouts for you to take home and digest. These provide you with additional information on top of what you have already learnt.
It is held in an informal, relaxed and comfortable environment with other expectant mothers and sometimes partners.
We would advise that the workshop is attended during your last trimester so that the information remains fresh.
Time and location

The workshops are usually held in the evenings starting at 19:15 and finishing no later than 22:00. We can host workshops during the daytime or at weekends if there is the demand – please call to discuss. We are taking bookings for the next 6 months.

We are currently holding classes at the Ramsden Heath Village Hall in Ramsden Heath, Billericay, Essex. Details of the location can be found at the attached link. www.ramsdenheath.org.uk

We are looking to expand into other parts of Essex and are hoping to run workshops in Chelmsford, Rayleigh and Southend.

What do you need to do next?

Just pick up the phone (07943612059) or send us an email to first14dayz@hotmail.co.uk and either Clare or Olivia will discuss with you when it would be suitable for you (and your partner) to attend the workshop based upon your due date.

Our qualifications

We must stress that we are not medically trained and any advice or information we provide is from first hand experience or sourced from others mothers which may have been passed down through generations. We would always recommend that if you are unsure you should consult your midwife, maternity unit, health visitor or GP.

Final note

We realise that nothing can truly prepare you for parenthood but knowledge can be a powerful tool. If we can succeed in passing on quick and easy solutions for different challenges you may face, we may hopefully make your journey a smoother one.

Next workshop dates are 2nd August and 6th September
