Ten Years Ago...

#1 Unread post by weezypops » Wed Jan 18, 2012 10:45 pm

Just for a bit of nostalgic fun, what were you doing this time ten, twenty, thirty or more years ago! You can include embarrassing photos if you have them and are willing!

Ten years ago...
January 2002
I was living in a shared house in London with friends - Katie, Steph, Jim, Eif and Nick, and had been seeing Kester for about three months (casually for longer). He was still living in Northamptonshire and would drive down to London after his 6am-2pm shift at a laser manufacturer every Friday, arriving just in time for me to get home from work, then would set off at 5am every Monday morning. He did that for over a year, which now seems amazing! We were loving spending time together and going to a lot of parties, a lot of late nights, a lot of drunkenness!

Twenty years ago...
January 1992

I was in the third year (year 9) at Westcliff Girls, which was an odd year. I enjoyed it but it was probably the most unsettled of all the years at school. I generally enjoyed it but there was a lot of bitchiness etc. that year which was less fun. I am still good friends with one of the girls I was friends with that year, Georgina, and am in touch with a lot of them. It was a strange year, but still a fun one! I had dreadful hair as I was trying to grow out a terrible short cut I had in the first year!

Thirty years ago...

Aged 4, living in Basildon and going to playschool!

10 years ago - 2002

Paul and I we were doing the dating thing, back then I didnt think marriage was that big of a deal and would quite happily of lived in sin forever lol - I was running 2 rooms ((0-2 and 2-3) at a local private nursery as well as being the Senco, working really long shifts and would come home and fall asleep straight away and not wake up till the morning. I lived with my nan. Paul would come up after work and stay over (Colchester), and then drive home in the morning to get changed (Leigh) and then go to the station (Rayleigh) to go to work (London), so it was a very long day for him.

20 years ago - 1992

I lived in Staffordshire, my mum was still alive but was starting to be ill with Cancer. I didnt really know much about it back then cause they didnt want me too. I had 3 clots in my leg / foot which went undiagnosed for a further 4 years, meaning I couldnt use my left leg at all from the knee down and managed to get around hopping on crutches.

30 years ago - 1982

I was just a baby so cant remember anything!!
I know there are some photos of me somewhere where a lady looked after me while my mum was working and somehow a pan of boiling water fell on me and I had bandages on my hands and feet where it had scolded me. No lasting effects though.

20 years ago - 1992

I had been with Tom about 6 months and just had my 4th operation on my knee, I was working for IFDS in Basildon and Tom and I had decided to buy a house together, just before the house prices went sky high. This year I also got engaged - remember Rachel? Tom had proposed and we went to your house for a BBQ as your parents were away. Pretty eventful year really as we also went to Mexico on holiday and got caught up in a hurricane, which destroyed our hotel, I got home and then a day later was involved in a crash with a lorry just on the roundabout at Tescos.

I was at secondary school, with Rachel Jane whom I was in the same form class as for 5 years! and a lot of classes together too, we were most of the time good lol - We had a lot of friends, and I guess we were amongst the popular people of the year. We also socialised outside school, I think this might of been the last year that we were allowed to go on girls brigade camp as we were amongst the naughty ones - we just had fun honest. I was also competing at county level for swimmer and was the fastest swimmer in my year - my claim to fame lol - Rachel is bound to have lots of photos of this decade!

I was at nursery, I split my chin open when going to the greengrocers with my dad - vivid memory as I was rushed to hospital when my mum realised she could see bone

Ten Years Ago:

Ten years ago, I was 17 years old - This picture is from my 17th birthday celebrations :) I was living with my Dad, as my parents had split 2/3 years before this. I had not long left school and was working in my first proper job in a photo-processing shop. I was dating a guy called Kye (we actually broke up about three weeks after this was taken) and was planning what to study on my return to college the following year (I took a year out). Little did I know that just 5 months later, I would fall pregnant...

Twenty Years Ago:

Twenty years ago, I was 7 years old - This picture is from my 7th birthday celebrations :) It was the first birthday party that I ever had (and also the last!) and my parent's had hired me a magician, who was useless! My parents were still together and loving, and my Mum had just found out that she was pregnant with my youngest sister. I think this party depicts one of my happiest memories of my childhood...
