Ads

#1 Unread post by weezypops » Thu Apr 09, 2009 10:10 am

So it appears everyone is getting ads at the top of their screen except for me. I think I don't get them because I use firefox - I just used Explorer to have a look and they were there.

It seems freeforums have decided to change the way you can get rid of ads - I used to pay a set amount every few months to get rid of them, now you have to pay per page views.

I've put money into the community chest to pay for it but it takes a little while to show up, so please bear with me. I don't want them on there if I don't have any control over them and am not getting any money back! And I imagine they're very annoying to see all the time.

I'll tell you when I've paid to get rid of them.

Thanks Louise, I'm having problems viewing the site because the content of the ads isn't suitable for the works firewall.

You might not be able to do this at work, but if you download Adblock Plus it stops you seeing this sort of thing. It's what I have and I didn't even notice there was a problem:

I added some £ to the chest, but hopefully this will be a nudge to all those who can download to switch to Firefox and use Adblock. I know what it's like when you're at work and have no control over the computer you're using, used to drive me nuts.

Thanks fussycat. I assume that everyone across freeforums is trying to get rid of ads at the same time so there's a backlog in activating the chest stuff, but I keep checking and will get rid of them asap.

Yes it's going faster. More like it used to be. Still having problems with the map though.

And is that something that is really bad/annoying? I'm just wondering as it seems to me that it's something that could be ignored, but if it's too annoying I'll have to remove the map.
