The purpose of the Get Ready Club is to provide children with the opportunity to develop skills they need for school. Group programmes to help prepare children for lifes next step. All groups are led by an Occupational Therapist with experience working with children.
All groups involve parents in the sessions to provide an opportunity to acquire information and develop skills to encourage your child to work towards being confident and independent.
Get Ready Club groups are aimed at children without identified difficulties or diagnoses. However, all groups are adapted to meet the needs of participants so can accomodate children with additional needs. For individual assessment or therapy please see http://www.occupationaltherapyessex.co.uk
•All groups are adapted to meet the needs of individual participants.
•Parents are directly involved in the sessions to enable them to understand and practice skills at home.
•Homework is flexible and tasks are adapted to meet individual needs.
•Groups run in 4 week blocks; a child can attend a single block or continue into the next group.
•Information sheets are provided to parents giving information about underlying skills and supplementary practice activities.
•Groups are designed and led by a qualified Occupational Therapist with experience of working with children.
•All groups can be run at school.
Pre-School
Get Ready for Pre-School and School - Develop independence and prepare for pre-school and school in a fun parent and child group
Next group due to start in Brentwood on Wednesday 25th January.
This programme aims to develop confidence and independence with:
•Dressing
•Feeding
•Toileting and personal care
•Pre-writing skills
•Motor skills needed for using pencils and scissors successfully
Primary
Primary groups aim to assist children aged 5 years and over to build strong foundations and learn basic skills. Sessions are planned to improve basic underlying motor skills and strength required for development of more complex skills. There is a focus on the skills required for development of handwriting, using scissors and self-care activities.
Moving On
Revise essential skills and develop organisational independence. Starting secondary school is a big step; moving on sessions focus on the key skills required for personal independence and create opportunities to practice organisational skills. Revise the basics of handwriting and problem shoot bad habits to improve the ability to write comfortably and confidently. Suitable for children aged 9+.
