Infacol?

#1 Unread post by dolphincrazy1 » Sat May 30, 2009 3:48 pm

Hi there

I wonder if someone can help me please.

I have heard that Infacol is good if baby's are having problems with bringing up there wind...

I am hoping to breast feed so would this be ok to give my baby if having problems with bring up the wind or is Infacol just for baby's that are only being bottle feed?

Please advise, thanks.
Take care
Julie

I'm not a mid wife but i'm pretty sure it's ok to use if your breast feeding. You just pop a drop in to babys mouth just before you start to feed.

I had a midwife appt today and asked her she said its more for bottle feeding babys than breast feeding baby's as breast milk does not have any wind in the breast not like bottles do... :D

Thanks for all your help on this, I still have it in my cupbaord just incase - back up plan
Take care

Hi There,
Infacol is fine to give breastfeeding babies. It is true that bottle fed babies ted to get wind more than breastfed babies but sometimes colic is caused not just by trapped wind but by mild spasms of the intestines which are immature and need around anoteh 3 months or so to finish developing. Preparations such as Infacol help relax the gut and therefore allow the trapped wind to be brought up more easily. You cna also give other things such as Windy Pops (awful name!!!) but it is a herbal preparation you cna get from health food shops. Also a teaspoon of cooled camomile tea can help, as can fennel tea, And if you are breastfeeding, if oyu drink it yourself, i can help with windy babies as they get a little 'dose' at each feed.

Good luck,
Vicky
