Birthing plan question - amenity bed?

#1 Unread post by dolphincrazy1 » Thu May 28, 2009 8:59 am

Hi there

I wonder if anyone can help me please.

I have got to fill out my birthing plan and there is a question on there that I don't have a clue what it means.

Would I like to have an amenity bed on the postnatal ward?
Any ideas what and amenity bed is?

Any help on this would be great, thanks.
Take care
Julie

i would of thought this just means a bed in the main shared ward rather than a side room?!

An amenity bed is a private room which you will be charged for. Sometimes if oyu have health isurance, you can claim the cost back but you would need ot check with the provider first.

Sometimes even if you want an amenity room ,they might be full as they put people in them who maybe have infections etc to safeguard the rest of the ward.

Good luck with the birth,
