I'm pleased to announce that this section is now going to be reopened!
It was originally set up by one of our members who was an independent midwife. She came to me with the idea of setting up a section where people could come to her for help and advice about all aspects of pregnancy, labour, delivery and post-natal care. Of course, everyone is free to post their experiences, opinions and thoughts too as sometimes personal experiences can be very helpful to those seeking advice. Sadly Vicky had to stop running it as she was too busy, but I'm pleased to say that we now have the lovely Lorraine from Birth Affinity who is going to introduce herself here.
The aim here is to offer sound, factual knowledge from people who know what they are talking about, as well as the experiences of those who have been there. While a good debate is a great thing, when we are discussing decisions people have made about their babies, it is understandable that sometimes they may feel undermined when someone disagrees with them or confused by conflicting advice. As we all know there is rarely a one-size fits all answer to pregnancy and parenting questions, but it is still good to be well-informed and armed with the facts.
Please remember that the information here is just advice and as such is not meant to replace the advice of your own midwife, who knows you and your medical history!

Re: Reopening Ask the Midwife
Hello! I'm Lorraine, a qualified Midwife, Natal Hypnotherapy practitioner, birth educator and mum to three boys.
I qualified as a Midwife in 1998, and have worked in the NHS ever since, with roles as a community Midwife, working on antenatal and postnatal wards in the hospital, helping women birth at home and in the birth unit, as well as being shift coordinator for the Maternity Unit on the Labour ward. It's fairly safe to say, I think, that I have come across a vast selection of pregnancy concerns and issues, both big and small, so I am more than happy to answer your questions! No question is silly or unimportant - if you have thought of it and it is troubling you in some way, it is worth asking about!
I am a qualified Natal Hypnotherapist and I also run antenatal, birth preparation and breastfeeding classes with my own birth education business, Birth Affinity. Although it is true that I am interested in promoting normal, natural births, I also fully understand that there are medical and personal reasons why other choices need to be made, and like to think that I am balanced in any view / advice that I give.
I am really looking forward to answering your questions, but I ask that if you are bleeding, losing water, have not felt your baby move (or not move as much as before), are in pain or have any other concerns that you think might require immediate attention, please contact your maternity unit, or Midwife immediately, as I may not be able to respond to all queries promptly.
Congratulations on your pregnancy and I look forward to hearing from you xx

If you have any questions for Lorraine, please feel free to start your own thread so that she can see what needs answering. Of course everyone is welcome to offer advice too if they would like to!
