Balance Bikes/Scuttle Bugs

#1 Unread post by Jenn » Tue Aug 14, 2012 4:49 pm

Anyone had these for their children?

Are they good? Are they worth the money?

Any better than others? Anything to look for when researching them?

Any favourite types that you have used?

Thanks

Anyone got a scuttle bug that they are selling or don't want anymore? really just want to try James out on it!

Am sure Kris had one for Jack and she highly recommended it said it really helped Jack learn to ride his bike.

Yes we have one Sam has just started using it, it's just a cheapy one from Argos which jack got the Christmas before last and started riding a bike properly within 5 days - he still shoots around the garden on it - think it was £15. You can get wooden ones but they are more expensive

Do you just use it in the garden or do we go for walks with it?

Ok - will go off and google. We are thinking of Christmas present so got a little while to research.

Hi Jenn, we had a balance bike from Tesco which Ben used only a few times before being able to ride a pedal bike at the age of 3.5yrs without there ever being the need to attach stabilisers to it. He is very confident riding and we feel the balance bike played a big part in this! We are keeping it for Josh to use. We don't have a scuttle bug but the 4 wheel version called a scramble bug for Josh and it is fab and sturdy. He loves whizzing around on it. Would highly recommend. Hope this helps xx

These are an excellent way for a child to develop sitting balance on a bike without having to worry about peddles. I often use this type of bike in children who are struggling with a regular bike. Of course you can just get a regular bike and remove the pedals/crank if you don't want to pay for one. Then as soon as they can balance without the pedals then put them back on.
