Southend's been getting some really good reviews in this thread... not so much Basildon though!jessiemum wrote:Oh my Word thats alwful, no wonder you complained. How worrying!!

My Josh was born in southend hospital... The before and during midwifes, can't fault them, thought they were fantastic. But the after midwifes... I don't know if its them in general, but I felt like I was meant to know everything, but I was clueless, and this made me feel that I was being a bother to them, but I don't know if that was just me.
I also couldn't stand the tiny amount of time your partner was allowed to visit, I discharged myself after 2 days because I got so fed up being on my own!

Jodie was born in basildon hospital - never again - it took them 9 hrs to find me a bed and they left me in the deliver room feeling very tired and dirty. I couldnt have a shower or bath until i was on the ward. Then when i was finally on the ward - i had no help with the baby - they left me to get on with things - having a first baby you would think they would offer help and support - not when i was there they didnt. Fortunatly an old school friend was working on the ward and she helped me the best she could. The next mornign i demanded i wanted to go home - they said no coz my iron level was very low but i got my own way and went home
i had kaicie at southend hospital, had little contractions all day on the saturday while out shopping, sat night as i was locking up my car they got bad. hobbled back home to call my sister, her and her boyfriend picked me up, he was worried that i would make a mess in his mercedes so got there in no time about 945pm . had gas and air (when my sister stopped taking some herself) then pethidine at about 2 am.had my waters broken sometime which was so painful i wasnt very nice to the man. at 515 am i asked for epidural, by 6am i hadnt had it and kept pushing (couldnt help it) they gave me an epidural at 6am and took the gas and air away , started pushing at 610am and kaicie was born at 630am weighing 7oz was very sick after (too much gas and air) and all i wanted was drink of coke. my sister was brilliant, i hurt her ear, think i tore it as i thought it was her hand.feel sorry for the midwife as i wasnt very nice to her, when she said she could see the head and she had alot of hair i said well ******* pull it out then!!!! was give a bed bath as the epidural worked (hour too late). after that i was in and out of sleep, the midwives were brilliant help as i feel asleep breastfeeding a few times, they must have been watching me as kaicie was put back in the cot for me. was well looked after and comfortable and left at 4pm on the monday. hopefully i will never be pregnant again but if i was i would be more than happy to go to southend hospital. only if my sister was there with me
I had Mia at Southend, had contractions 2 weeks before she eventually came. She was due to be induced on the Saturday but had the feeling of being wet all day hursday so phoned Friday morning and they asked me to go straight down. When examined was 3cm dialated. They decided to induce me as my waters were already broken (hence the wet feeling) and was concerned regarding infection. It was strange, as it was a year to the day that I had miscarried our first baby at 15 weeks. They induced me at noon by drip. After 7 hours of gas and air I asked for an epidural as was so tired and in pain. They told me that it would be 1/2 hour before they could give me the epidural as he was with someone else. After the epidural they told me it would take 1/2 hour for it to kick in. Mia was eventually born at 12.50 that night. The midwifes wanted to get her born that day so that it was a happy day for us. She was born by ventouse in the end as she seemed to have trouble getting out at the end. The aftercare I received whilst in hospital was great. The midwives afterwards were great too even after my stitches had come undone and became infected (a long story). But would recommend Southend to anyone.

I had my first in colchester hospital fairly okay experience, my daughter was born in Clacton hospital which was wonderful, lovely staff, but that was 5 years ago and things have seemed to go down hill since with many of the midwife teams. Makes you worry to have another with so many bad experiences.
