Sounds a bit like colic/wind esp as he is drawing his knees up. You might find the colic drops help before a feed.

Try calling the nct breastfeeding helpline, they are really good and will come to your home to help. If not there should be a local mum2mum group at your local clinic.

Hope he settles soon, it's so distressing when they struggle feeding. Sorry I can't offer a resolution, didn't want to read and walk away.

x x

Thanks, I appreciate it. I didn't think breastfed babies really got colic though, and it doesn't seem to last as long as colic does (isn't it supposed to be 3 hours or more per day?)

My sister had the same problem with her little girl. The health visitor said not to express, but to really massage the breast before offering it. It worked for her, so maybe worth a try. Lewis struggled with tummy trouble and he was fully breastfed too. He still struggles now at a year. I think its just how some babies are. I used to carry him round in a tuck position and rub his back. I hope everything works itself out. They usually do, it's just in a mothers nature to worry. Keep smiling x

Thanks Allison, will give that a go. He is quite a windy little thing so I do wonder if it's just that he needs to do a big fart and is distressed trying to get it out! He does make a lot of fuss if that's all it is though!

I would keep a food dairy just to see if it is certain foods he is reacting to. I know broccoli was a no no with Cara. Have you tried the football hold when feeding him? I know Cara seemed to feed better like that if I was a bit full.

I have tried it yeah. It's been suggested that it might be a mild tongue tie, apparently it can make them quite windy and can make it problematic if the boob is too full. It does seem to fit, especially as it's hereditary and I'm tongue-tied myself.

Hi Nathalie - not sure what word you mean instead of compulsory?

I know they recommend that you try for a few days if possible as the goodness in the colostrum is really good for newborn babies but I know plenty of people who have been unable to/didn't want to and their babies have all grown fine!
