Chores Ideas

#1 Unread post by weezypops » Tue Feb 25, 2014 12:04 pm

Felix is desperate to save up to buy the new Lego Movie game for the PS3 so we were discussing the idea of them being able to earn extra money for doing chores. I was wondering if you all had any ideas I could add to the list that they can choose from - things your kids do/did/you'd like them to do at this age (nearly 7 and nearly 5).

They are expected to do things like keeping their rooms tidy, putting their washing away, feeding the cats, helping set the table, tidy after themselves anyway so it's things that they are not currently expected to do.

I thought I'd make a list of things they could possibly do, with the amount they will earn next to it then they can pick and choose. They won't be expected to do things, it's up to them
So far we have:
Put a wash on
Hang the washing out
Do the washing up
Hoover
Wipe the windows (not sure about this one)
Take their bedding off ready for washing
Make their beds up (probably couldn't do duvets but maybe the rest)
Watering plants
Weeding (in the spring/summer)
Tidy shoe rack
Tidy and sort arts and crafts drawers

Anything else you can think of?

Mine empty the dishwasher, and jack puts the recycling bags out some weeks
It's hard to choose chores that you know they can do with out you having to re-do - jack helped put on the washing so I observed but hanging the washing out/up would not necessarily but done to prevent ironing iykwim x

We don't have a (working) dishwasher but the recycling is a good one.

I know what you mean about redoing things but I'm thinking that with a bit of help they can hopefully get the hang of it and anything they can do would be a bonus!

J does a fair amount of jobs. Only thing he doesn't do is ironing / washing windows or mowing the grass.

A does things like sweeping the floor, hoovering, sorting her bed, keeping the shoes tidy, helping with the shopping and putting it away.

Looking at your list I really should give her more jobs. Haha.

Yeah I did think the same Lou, about practising but I couldn't cope with things being dropped and having to be rewashed - I moan about the amount I have to wash already ;) - instead they have to put washing away
do they have packed lunch? maybe they could make their sandwiches and pack their lunch

Mine make their beds, tidy their rooms, help bring in and put away the shopping, hoover, change Tabitha's bum (sometimes). They have started washing up, making dinner, putting out the rubbish.
