ovulation testing kits

#1 Unread post by Ellamummy » Mon Jan 19, 2009 6:53 pm

Has anyone used these before. My cycles can be a bit erratic, so I used a clearblue one and first time it worked. However I saw that superdrug has their own brand and it was buy one and get one free, so I got them - however it works out that I use the tests to detect my hormone surge on completely different days to the system used on clearblue and I am bit confused - has anyone had any expierience using these things?

Thanks

No experience at all I'm afraid, but I'm guessing you've decided to try again and enjoy maternity leave from the horrid job then!

We used these when trying for Brandon. From the age of 15 i was convinced i couldnt have children, or would have trouble (Long story behind it) then in March 2007 i found out i was pregnant after only being with OH 6 weeks. I miscarried that baby but a few months later we decided to try but i was impatient so i bought some ovulation tests.
I only bought the cheap sticks off ebay and they worked. I fell pregnant that same month with Brandon.
Heres a link to the ones i bought. They are worth a try as they are so cheap.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PRIVATE-25-OVULAT ... 240%3A1318
With this one you can choose how many you want upto 25. so could be 20 ovulation tests plus 5 pregnancy tests or whatever you want upto 25.
These are the exact tests i used for both ovulation and testing if i was pregnant and they are the same as the ones they use in hospitals too.

I too have erratic periods due to pcos, and have used ovulation tests in order to concieve. The clear blue ones are fab but expensive, BOOTS often have BOGOF on them, but you have to get your timing right.
I have tried all different brands, and asda's own ovulation kits were very reliable and quite reasonable too.
There really isnt much advice I can give, fingers crossed it happens for you soon xxx

Hey

Thanks ladies. I will have a look at that ebay link if I have to get anymore - I already bought the superdrug ones - because they were the best price in the shops but I am using the clearblue instructions - as they worked first time with Ella and I think the dates they tell you to use are more reliable then the superdrug ones which i think are too early. I get ovulation pains usually so I can roughly tell when I will ovulate but my cycle always changes so it helps to use the sticks.

Yes Claire I am going to try again (obviously!). I would have tried last year but I wanted to enjoy the holiday. I would like not to go back to work but we will have to see how that goes. Tomorrow will be my first day back since before xmas and I am dreading it!

Thanks hun.

Used the superdrug testing kit but used the CB testing dates - and found when I should try - but could only try for one day and not for full 2 days as I had really bad ovulation pains, I normally get them but not normally that bad - I don't know if anyone else has them. That was the first time they were really bad and medication didn't help. I hope they are not always like this!

Well I hope they are not always like this! I used to have really bad period cramps and went to the specialist twice and they tests etc but couldn't come up with anything conculsive - so I wouldn't like to get all these pains again - oh well more incentive to get pregnant quick!

Hey

Well I wasn't going to say anything until the 12 week scan - but there is no point saying I am not pregnant and then saying guess what a few weeks later. I am about 7/8 weeks pregnant - so early days still. Getting bouts of MS - which is going to be a nightmare when I have to commute and work - I am hoping I can keep it under wraps until my scan. I haven't mentionned anything on Facebook as there are a few people from work on there so I don't want them to know

I should have known you would be one of the first people to post! We were lucky it was quick again - only the second attempt.
You may have twigged when we meet up again - I sometimes look a bit green around the gills! And also the tiredness.

Thanks hun x
