Well why not sign up for the Bliss Buggy push??

Packs are available soon, to help raise money for Bliss, by doing a sponsered walk / buggy push - Why not walk down the sea front or take a stroll round your local park with a few friends.

More info will be available soon - but there is a facebook page where you can keep track of all the info as it becomes available

I'd definitely join in if something was organised and the timing was right.

Its not something I would organise, so it would need to be one of you which takes the lead on it - I am happy to attend as a Bliss rep and help out as much as possible with publicity and maybe someone in a costume walking with you to encourage sponsorship / donations.

Getting started
Your event can be as big or as small as you want – if your participants are pushing their buggies around a course and collecting sponsorship for us then it’s a Bliss Buggy Push!
Whether you hold your push for just your friends and family or open it up to the public, you’ll be helping us make an incredible difference to the lives of premature and sick babies, so simply follow the tips below to get started.
Get a pushing team together!
• If you are part of a buggy fitness class, the buggy push could be a great event for your group. Ask your group leader if you can hold one of your classes as a buggy push for Bliss.
• Ask the parents at your nursery, school, children’s centre or support group if they would like to take part in your push.
• Make sure all of your friends and family know about your planned push and are on board!
Pick a date
• A school day will be quieter and can fit in well with parents, but if you would like whole families to come along a weekend might be better.
• Ask your group about the best date for your buggy push and check when everyone is on holiday.
• If you are planning to hold a big push in a local park, you might need to be flexible on dates to avoid clashing with other events. Have a reserve date in mind when you approach your venue and give as much notice as you can.
Plan your route
• If you are having a smaller push, you can simply get your date sorted out and plan a route around your local area. There’s lots of great advice on getting started in the Walking information section of
www.ramblers.org.uk and you can also use tools like www.walkit.com or www.google.co.uk/maps to map out a route.
• 5k (just over three miles) can be a good distance to choose as it’s a bit of a challenge, but should also be achievable for everyone, even for older children who might want to walk the route with their parents.
• Organising your buggy push in a local park avoids any issues with traffic, but you will need to contact them to get permission to hold your push there first. Have a look at your local council’s website to find out more.
• Larger parks can require a risk assessment or public liability insurance, which Bliss can help you with, so please get in touch if you are asked for these.
• If your venue asks you for a fee to hold your push, you can ask your pushers to pay a small entry fee to cover this so that all donated funds come to Bliss. Please let us know if you are planning to fund your costs in this way.
Get noticed!
• Contact your local press to tell them about your push. This is especially important if you would like to hold a push open to the public, as it can help recruit participants! Local radio stations often advertise charity events for free and if your venue has a website, they may be able to help promote your event online too.
• If you have a great reason to plan a buggy push event for Bliss, you can also get in touch with your local paper. We can help you put together a press release, so if you would like to publicise your walk in this way, please get in touch.
• Use the poster in your pack to let everyone know about your push - display it at your nursery or school, put it up in your local coffee shop and if you’re holding your event at a park, ask for permission to display it there. Please let us know if you’d like us to send you more posters.

Make it special
• Make sure you order a Bliss Buggy Push t-shirt for each of your pushers by using the form in this pack and encourage everyone to decorate their buggies with Bliss stickers, balloons, baby photos and any other ribbons or sparkles you can find.
• Holding a picnic after your push can help make your event really special:
––Plan your route to end at a park, a parent’s garden, or if you’re unsure of the weather, a child friendly café.
––Ask everyone to bring along their own sandwiches, invite each parent to bring along something different or celebrate the British summer by holding a barbeque in your garden.
––Have a ‘teddy bears’ picnic’ and ask each child to bring their favourite toy along, or organise a scavenger hunt for your little ones.
Have fun fundraising!
• Give out the sponsorship form attached to this pack to your pushers: the easiest way for everyone to start fundraising for Bliss is to get friends, family and colleagues to sponsor them. If you don’t ask, you don’t get, so start asking everyone!
• Set up a page for your buggy push at www.justgiving.com: You can have one online page for everyone and it only takes a couple of minutes to set a page up. Plus, because Bliss receives all of the donations automatically, it saves you having to chase up pledges after the event.
• Order a Bliss collection tin: You can put a tin in your local shop or wherever you’ll be finishing your buggy push. If you’d like to collect funds during the push, or at the picnic afterwards, you will need to contact your council or the venue owner to get permission.
We’ll send all of your fantastic pushers a thank you and certificate for their fundraising after your push. To ensure they all get a proper thank you, it’s great if organisers can pass on the names and contact details that they have for pushers.
If you’d like any advice on fundraising, practical advice on organising your buggy push, or a collection tin order form, please get in touch with us at events@bliss.org.uk or 020 7378 5746. We’re here to help with whatever you need!
You’re helping to change tiny lives
By organising a Bliss Buggy Push and raising funds for our work, you are helping us continue to:
• Campaign for the changes needed to ensure doctors and nurses have the best resources available to care for babies, regardless of where or when they are born.
• Research innovative techniques and treatments that have the potential to save and improve the quality of life for babies born premature or sick.
• Support parents of special care babies at the most difficult times, through our publications, messageboard, helpline and leaflets.
In short, the sponsorship you collect will help to make a massive difference to the lives of vulnerable babies and their families!
