Pain when sneezing

#1 Unread post by artyfartymack » Tue Feb 01, 2011 9:43 pm

This is a weird one, but sometimes when I sneeze hard or cough I get a pulling pain on my lower left side. I had it with my previous pregnancy as well and sometimes it can really knock the wind out of me especially in bed at night.

I had thought it might be my placenta pulling but the sonographer tells me my placenta is anterior and so it cant be that. I wondered if anyone else suffers with this and if so what it is?

Maybe it just because of less room and maybe things are tighter/ squished more on that side?
Think I remember having a pain like that more just at the bottom of my rib cage x

It is likely to mild muscular / ligament strain, and is more on your left side as your womb tilts slightly more to that side, so more weight on the structures that lie there. Putting your hand firmly against the area that "pulls" when you sneeze can provide some relief, although I suspect you are probably doing that quite naturally already! If the pain persists or worsens do mention it either to your gp or midwife & get it checked out, but it sounds like a fairly normal ache / pain of pregnancy, courtesy of the pregnancy hormones relaxing and softening your tissues!

Yeah, I remember unconsciously holding my hand over my tummy etc when sneezing for the same reason.
