Lakeside theatre at Essex university plays host to Young company. It is an exciting drama club open to young people around Colchester who are passionate about theatre. We welcome anyone who has enthusiasm, commitment and creativity - no performance experience necessary.

The Lakeside Theatre, in Colchester, opens its doors every Saturday morning during term time for its Youth Theatre. It is the place where you can be yourself, discover your ambitions and make something truly amazing happen. The weekly workshops are run by a team of professional theatre practitioners and drama students from the University of Essex.
At the weekly workshops you will learn a variety of theatre skills and techniques, build self-confidence, meet new friends and have plenty of fun in a creative environment (not to mention a professional, fully equipped theatre).
No acting experience is necessary, just enthusiasm, curiosity and commitment.
The Youth Theatre has five school year based age groups who attend different workshops separately and then come together to hang out and swap ideas. At the end of each term there will be a shared performance of the work and a production in the summer.
Here are the running times of the drama workshops:

Age 7-9 (School Year 3-4) 10-11am
Age 9-11 (School Year 5-6) 10-11.15am
Age 11-14 (School Year 7-9) 11-1pm
Age 15-16 (School Year 10-11) 11-1pm
Age 16-18 (School Year 12-13) 11-1pm

Autumn 2013: 7 September – 21 December
Spring 2014: 11 January – 29 March
Summer 2014: 26 April – 19 July
Price: £50 per term.
