Name regrets?

#1 Unread post by Jenn » Thu Jan 13, 2011 3:27 pm

Apparently one in 5 parents regret calling their child the name they did.

Got me thinking if any of us regret our choices? Going to do it in a poll so that no-one else will know?

I don't regret our name choice although I have had the odd ten seconds when I think - oh maybe I was wrong? Like when my niece went through a stage of calling him Willy. But that soon passed and I love the name as much now as I did!

Nope. We spent ages choosing the boys names, and they all really seem to suit their name.
I sometimes wish that other people hadnt chosen the same name though lol. Callum was 1 of 3 Callums in his class :/

I love both our kids names, but we spent a LOT of time thinking about them and going over the choices etc. I can imagine you might regret it if you went for something more trendy or on a whim (general you, not you Jenn!).

I think William is a classic enough name that things like Willy don't really matter - there are so many other nickname options and no-one uses that really. Plus, if kids are going to tease they will find a way. Sure, if you go calling your kid bumface or something like that you're asking for trouble, but most names can be changed into something rude or funny if kids want to find something.

I agree Louise. It was literally a few seconds that made me wonder. I think it's because she thought it was really really funny but it never stuck luckily!

No I love both the names we chose for our two.
Both our two were nameless for a few days and then Den said 'What about Louise?' With Lou.
Andy was an Ian for a few days but then there was St Andrews day and we thought yeah he's an Andrew.

Jack is quite common - he was going to be Ethan, but Jack Thomas is really fitting for him
Sam was going to be Leo, until a week before when we decided on Samuel but will always be Sam unless he is being naughty, cheeky, mischevious and then he becomes SAMUEL NUBBERT!!

I think they both suit their names not named after anyone in particular either apart from middle names Jacks is Thomas after Tom and Sams is Paul after my dad x

We had about 3 names for Mia but waited til she was born and she looked like a Mia, her middle name is Joy - after my nan Joyce. I would have loved to have named her after my grandma but I know she would have turned in her grave if I did - she hated her name - Mauld. She said she used to get called Mouldy Mauld at school. I also didnt realise how common Mia has become, she is one of two in her school year.
