The railway was part of a 10km stretch at the end of the Great Eastern, latterly LNER and London Central Line that runs through beautiful Essex Countryside. After LU suspended passenger services in 1994, the line was preserved as a heritage railway. Following years of neglect, the recent extensive infrastructure improvements and restoration work means EOR is now able to invite you to step back in time to enjoy the romance of heritage travel. The works have enabled us to increase the frequency and variety of trains, run steam and diesel locomotive hauled trains and ensure the long term future of the line.

All of this would not be possible without our enthusiastic and friendly team of volunteers, and there are many ways you can get involved, whether that is helping operate the trains, in the booking offices, retail and catering or being part of the restoration and maintenance gangs undertaking all manner of projects. There are work parties both on weekdays and weekends, and our friendly team is drawn from all ages and backgrounds (no prior railway experience is necessary) as we run services for the benefit of visitors, the local communities and economy

Peppa Pig and George visit the Epping Ongar Railway!24 July
The ever-popular Peppa Pig and George make a visit to the Epping Ongar Railway.

See Peppa Pig and George at intervals on 22 May and 24 July

It will be a great day out for all the family - especially the younger ones.

Peppa Pig and her brother, George, will be here on Sunday 24 July. They will be making appearances at the times shown below. Be sure to come and say hello and don’t forget your camera!

Capacity on each train will be limited and advance booking is essential.

Appearances take place at North Weald station. There is no parking available at the station, except for blue badge holders. We recommend travelling to us via the Central Line (journey time to Epping is just 30 minutes from Stratford) or parking at Epping Underground station (parking charges payable) or in public car parks in Ongar and using our free connecting heritage bus service. You can find the bus timetable here.

Times
You can see Peppa and George on the platform at the following times, before taking a ride on a heritage steam train through the Essex countryside to Ongar and return.

10:00
11:40
13:20
15:00
The experience lasts approximately 90 minutes.

Our resident magician, John, will be on board the train with lots of tricks to keep you entertained during the journey, and there will be other on-board activities too.

At North Weald
See Peppa and George. They will pass by you on their own performance train whilst you stand on the platform. Interaction between the characters and children therefore is limited but there will always be a great chance to see the characters and take a wonderful picture.

Our gift shop will be open with a wide selection of souvenirs for sale, as well as a selection of Peppa Pig merchandise.

The LNER Café will be open offering a range of hot and cold drinks and light refreshments to take away.

At Ongar Station
During the journey, there will be a short break at the historic Ongar station where you can follow the clues and find the large eggs around the station.

Our gift shop will be open and light refreshments will be available. For an additional charge a balloon modeller will be creating balloon animals for you to take away.

Passengers using the bus from Ongar should note that there will be an extended wait for a return bus if booking for 13.20 appearance and train service; An additional bus service will run to connect from the 15.00 appearance and train service if required.

Passengers must comply with any government guidance in place on the date of travel.

All tickets will be scanned electronically on arrival. This can be from a mobile phone or a print out. Please help us by making sure that you have these ready for our volunteers.

These trains are planned to be hauled by a steam locomotive from North Weald to Ongar, and by a diesel locomotive from Ongar to North Weald. Every effort will be made to operate services as advertised but the Epping Ongar Railway reserves the right to substitute diesel traction for steam in unavoidable circumstances. No refunds will be offered in the event that diesel traction is substituted.
