The Farm offers free entry to visitors and is open between:
9.00am - 3.30pm daily
9.00am - 12 noon on Bank Holidays

As an initiative of people from the local community Wellgate Community Farm came to life in 1982 on a 1.5 acre wasteland granted by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham in the form of a management agreement. The name Wellgate was derived from the local areas of Chadwell Heath and Marks Gate. In 1984 the farm achieved charity status. In 2002 the Farm was able to gain a long-term lease from the Local Authority, which included a further half acre of land. In 2003 Wellgate Community Farm became incorporated.

Purpose
To provide a focus for community activity as a growing place for individuals and groups.

Aims

To provide opportunities for all through education, training, therapy and recreation by becoming involved in any aspect of Farm life.

To maintain and develop good farming practice with particular emphasis on animal welfare.

To encourage access for all, whilst sustaining a balance between the needs of the farm and those using it.

To recruit and train volunteers to maintain and develop the Farm’s activities.

To raise funds necessary for the progress of the Farm.

To develop partnerships with statutory and voluntary bodies.

To promote sustainable development, conservation and other environmental issues.

On Saturday 30th October come and join us for a spooky afternoon event and parlour games organised by our young farmers club.
Take part in some harvest-time games, solve our mystery, meet our spooky volunteers and do some themed arts and crafts to fill your goody bag!

Take part in fun activities whilst learning about what happens on a farm. We’ll teach you the traditional methods with a fun hands on approach.

Children must be between 8years and over

Wanted: Farm Manager
Post of Farm Operational Manager
Β£26,000 – Β£28,000 per annum
London Borough of Barking & Dagenham
35 hours a week – This post is, as a guide, 70% office based

This is a fantastic opportunity to be a part a vibrant and locally unique community resource, joining a dedicated team of staff and volunteers.

Wellgate Community Farm is seeking a new Operational Manager to be responsible for the day-to-day management of the farm, including managing the staff team, responsibility for volunteers and overseeing the running of all projects, activities, events including associated administration and implementation of site development plan.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about farming and the natural environment and has experience of animal husbandry. They will also have experience of managing a staff team, the ability to work with people of all ages and abilities, the desire to enthuse and help them grow as individuals at the farm and the ability to work well under pressure.

We need someone who is client/customer focused and can ensure that the farm is a safe, welcoming and enjoyable place for people to visit and volunteer. They will need an awareness and understanding of Health & Safety, safeguarding and the legal responsibilities of running a community project and an open farm.

The post holder will also require a full driving licence and will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
