I was really excited to read this book after reading the blurb on the back.
I took the book with me in the car. It’s about a parrot called Porridge who does naughty things behind his owners back and it’s quite funny.
There isn’t many pictures in the book so I had to use my imagination. I could picture Porridge doing silly things and it made me smile.
I tried to get my mum to buy me a parrot but she wouldn’t let me, so we went to a pet shop so I could see if the parrots there were naughty like Porridge, but they just squawked (maybe they said something when I turned my back though)
I give this book 3 out of 5.
As soon as I gave the book to my daughter she immediately started to read it; at 13 chapters (66 pages) it was perfect for a car journey. Every now and again I could hear her chuckle and when she saw a message from the author at the beginning of the book, it made her think the author had written it especially for her.
The book quality is excellent and withstood being in a cramped backpack and several trips in the car.
The story content is fairly basic and suitable for children over 5. I asked my 10 year old to read it and he read it for a few minutes before saying it wasn’t really his thing!
I tried to read a few pages, but as I am not the target demographic it isn’t surprising I didn’t finish the book.
We are on the lookout for more titles by Jaylen Grace as its perfect to encourage imagination and enjoyment of books, and this copy will be donated to our local school so more children can enjoy the tales of Porridge.
