Honey Monster Cereals and Bars

We tend to be a bit mean when it comes to cereal. Coco Pops are only allowed on holiday and we told the kids that you could only get Nutella in France. So when we were asked to review some of the new range from Honey Monster Foods, they couldn’t believe their luck!

First of all, we tried the Choco Waffles. The website extols their virtues as being a source of fibre, being fortified with vitamins and iron, and containing no artificial additives, which is really great, but they are still very much a treat cereal. Needless to say, my kids loved it. They contain multigrain waffles in a chocolate coating, and of course leave the milk nice and chocolatey afterwards. Felix and Iris were keen to buy these all the time and keep an eye out for them whenever we go to the supermarket, but I’m sorry to say that chocolate for breakfast will have to remain a rare treat in this house!

Next were the  Honey Waffles – another hit. These don’t feel quite as unhealthy, though they are still pretty sugary, and in fact my children seemed to prefer these. They are both big honey fans and I think that despite what they might think themselves, they would grow tired of chocolate cereal every day, but probably not of these. They have a nice texture and remain a little crunchy even after the milk is added. They still have to remain a weekend/holiday treat though as they contain 10% of an adult’s GDA of sugar.

As well as these, we had a taste of the Monster Puffs bars. These are pretty yum, though we had them as an after-dinner treat rather than a breakfast food.  They are made of toasted crisp rice and Sugar Puffs stuck together with  marshmallow and then drizzled with chocolate and come in two  flavours, milk chocolate and white chocolate and honeycomb. I preferred the white chocolate myself, not that I ate them… err… many of them. Ahem.
