The National Childbirth Trust (NCT) is a registered charity, which offers support in pregnancy, childbirth and early parenthood. The Trust aims to help all parents enjoy an experience of pregnancy, birth and early parenthood which enriches their lives and gives them confidence in being a parent.
Our antenatal classes aim to provide all attendees with the knowledge and confidence they need to start their journey as parents. It is also hoped that the couples will then form their own support network, through the friends you will make, to help you through the early stages of parenthood. We also offer a range of workshops including NCT Waterbirth workshop and one specifically for those expecting twins or multiples. For more information please see www.nct.org.uk/courses/antenatal
We also offer a wide range of postnatal courses and workshops, including NCT Baby Massage and Introducing Solid Foods workshops, where we aim to help support you through these joyful new, but sometimes challenging, times as a new parent. We have a wealth of essential, evidence-based information, designed especially for you and your baby. For more information please see www.nct.org.uk/courses/postnatal
Our national helpline offers convenient access to specialist information and support on pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding from our highly-trained, specialist breastfeeding counsellors and antenatal teachers. Our helpline also offers postnatal support with issues such as crying, sleep and depression in the weeks after birth. Helpline Number: 0300 330 0700. For further information please see https://www.nct.org.uk/about-us/contact-us
At a local level we have a large network of NCT branches, run by volunteers, offering a wide variety of events/activities for all new parents. These range from our New Nearly Sales, which sell a range of high-quality baby/children’s clothes, toys and equipment at bargain prices. This is an excellent way of reducing the cost of kitting out your new baby, which can run into thousands of pounds. They also run Bumps and Babies groups, which cater for newborns up to pre-school age toddlers. These small, friendly, local groups give new parents and parents to be the chance to meet regularly, make new friends and grow in confidence. There are other ad-hoc events organised by the branches, including First Aid Evenings, Cheeky Monkey Tea Parties and days out.
