5 Ways to Improve Your Skin

Everyone wants beautiful, flawless skin. Fortunately, there are many simple ways to achieve great skin and get the radiant complexion you’ve always wanted. Here are five easy ways to improve your skin now.

1. Drink plenty of water

Hydration is one of the key ways to achieve amazing skin. Sufficiently hydrated skin will appear plump, radiant, and glowing. Whereas, not drinking enough will show in your skin with signs like dryness and a dull complexion.

This can also highlight other skin concerns, such as fine lines and wrinkles. If you want great skin, it’s therefore vital that you drink the recommended eight glasses of water a day. You should also keep the outside of your skin properly hydrated by applying a moisturiser twice a day and using hydrating facial products like sheet masks.

2. Avoid wearing too much makeup

Wearing heavy amounts of makeup can lead to skin issues like clogged pores, blemishes and skin irritation. These effects can become even worse if you don’t remove your makeup properly or neglect to follow a good skincare routine.

Obviously, you don’t have to go completely barefaced, but minimising the amount of makeup you wear on a daily basis should noticeably improve the appearance of your skin. When you do want to wear makeup, try to choose products that are gentle on the skin.

For instance, mineral makeup can give a flawless finish but is much lighter than most traditional makeup products like liquid foundation. Wearing less makeup will also save you money on cosmetics and make your morning routine far quicker.

3. Wear sun protection

The sun’s UV rays can have a hugely damaging effect on your skin and lead to premature signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles and dark age spots. Too much sun exposure can also lead to skin cancer. It is, therefore, vital that you protect your skin by wearing a sun lotion with a minimum SPF of 30, even on cold or cloudy days. Doing so will keep your skin looking youthful and radiant and also keep it healthy and protected from harmful UV rays.

4. Exfoliate your skin regularly

Your skin naturally sheds thousands of cells every day. These cells often remain on the top layer of your skin leading to a dry, dull complexion. Exfoliation gently removes the buildup of dead skin cells to reveal a fresh layer of new skin beneath. Regular exfoliation is, therefore, an excellent way to maintain a bright, radiant complexion.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that exfoliating too often can lead to skin irritation and redness. According to beauty experts at Glamour – “You should exfoliate your skin two to three times a week if you have normal or combination skin, and once a week if you have sensitive skin.”

5. Get enough quality sleep

A lack of sleep will quickly show up on your skin with signs like dark undereye circles, puffiness, and discolouration. Your skin naturally rejuvenates itself while you sleep, so getting some extra shut eye should have a significant effect on the appearance of your skin. Try to get the recommended 7-9 hours of sleep every night to keep your skin looking its best.
