Tony winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie, and a little boy with a big imagination–Jojo. With skill at arms demonstrations, a commentary on how the Knights prepare and arm themselves and the Jousting contest in the afternoon, this is a thrilling day out for all the family!
  • Knights of Hedingham! Coming in 2019, a new whole experience at Hedingham Castle. See furious combat by Knights on Foot and Horseback as the competitors battle for a place in the guard of Hedingham Castle.
  • The Pantaloons present: Sense & SensibilityElinor Dashwood has a lot of good Sense. Her sister Marianne Dashwood has an excess of Sensibility. Together they make a snappy title for Jane Austen’s classic novel of scandals, scoundrels and severely sprained ankles.
  • The Wind in the Willows: Spring is in the air and Mole has found a wonderful new world. There’s boating with Ratty, a feast with Badger and high jinx on the open road with that reckless ruffian, Mr Toad. What more could such firm friends wish for? But after Toad’s latest escapade, can they join together and beat the wretched weasels?

  • Summer Workshop – ‘Matilda’: This year’s 5 day workshop is to be a fun musical based on the amazing hit West End show ‘Matilda’.   • Storytelling – The 12 dancing princesses. Join Brentwood Theatre and Fable & Moon for magical, interactive storytelling and craft sessions.
  • Wonky! by Really Big Pants Theatre: Really Big Pants are back – and cooking up a storm with their new show, WONKY! Take a large handful of nutrition, a healthy dash of PE, a hearty portion of PSHE, and mix them together with (clean) green fingers. Bake for 55 minutes against the glittering backdrop of a dance competition. Add a dollop of peer pressure, serve with some celebrity culture and a garnish of gender equality… et voilà!

  • Aspire – Storytelling Summer School: Our Aspire Summer School will help young people explore their creativity, meet new friends, build confidence, and develop communication and social interaction skills. Sessions are taught by a range of arts professionals alongside staff with experience of working with young people with additional needs.
  • Hackt 4.0: A week long summer school for young people 11-16 to explore drama and theatre making through digital technology and computer game design. Young people will work with Mercury Theatre professionals and can expect to use drama, video game design software, choreography, Raspberry Pi’s, filmmaking and coding to experiment and explore the possibilities of digital creativity.

PQA Colchester

  • Play in a Week: Students aged 6-18 will work with Team PQA industry professionals on an original musical theatre piece featuring numbers from some of the biggest shows currently showing in the West End and Broadway, including Dear Evan Hansen, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, School of Rock and more! 
  • Tweak Your Technique: In addition to play in a Week, students on our Tweak your technique course will be required to attend an extra two hours each day. Arriving at 9am and departing at 5pm, students can expect to develop their skills in sessions focused on various dance and performance styles, such as ballet, contemporary and jazz.

  • The Southend Pier Puppet Festival: Returning for it’s 31st year, The Southend Pier Puppet Festival is an annual event not to be missed. Five well loved acts will be performing three shows throughout each day. Bella the Barrel Organ will be at the Pier entrance entertaining folks young and old. We also have face painting at a small charge, a colouring table for the little ones and bar for Mum and Dad.

 

Southend Summer School for Performing Arts

  • Summer School: Music, dance, drama, art and stage crafts will be offered all week and no experience is necessary. Just choose the activities and we will create your own timetable for the week. All activities will be directed by experienced DBS checked tutors.

  • Family Puppet Show: No need to book for this great free event! There will be face painting and refreshments available. Taking place at Strand Wharf in Leigh old town, this is an event suitable for all ages.

  • Pop Party Dance Class: Be a VIP to the best Pop Party in Town! Total Pop Party is having a dance class and we want you to come and join in! Come and meet the girls and learn one of the routines from the show! The class will be held in the auditorium where you will be able to stand on stage and release your inner pop star!
  • Soft Play for Under 3’s: Saturday mornings are play-time at the Thameside this summer with our pop up soft play and mini arts and crafts. Suitable for children under 3 only. Each session is 1 hour and parents/carers will get unlimited tea and coffee. Sessions are 10am to 11am or 12pm to 1pm. Early booking is advised as there are only 10 spaces per session. Children must be accompanied at all times.
  • Total Pop Party: The Perfect Party for your little ones. Total Pop Party is brand new and exciting for 2019! These incredible girls celebrate the modern day pop legends from Little Mix to The Spice Girls, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, P!nk, Ed Sheeran, Justin Beiber & all in between. Incredible Choreography, Brilliantly Entertaining & a Non-Stop Pop Party from Start to Finish.
  • Trix Tuesdays Foyer Show: Nicky Trix brings you an hour of fun in the theatre foyer. Enjoy a close up experience of magic and ventriloquism where the children will feel like part of the show. Rib tickling fun for everyone. Fun for ages 4 to 104. Early booking is advised as numbers are limited. Children will sit on the floor and parents can sit in the foyer area behind the children.  
  • Two Day Modern Ballet Workshop: Modern Ballet Workshop 13th and 20th August 2019
    This summer, New English Ballet Theatre (NEBT) is offering an exciting new ballet workshop for 10 to 16 year olds who have experience in dance. This 2-day workshop is an opportunity to learn choreography and rehearse on stage with professional dancers. Students will gain a unique insight into rehearsing and working within a ballet company.
