Matthew Townshend Productions is bringing a superb adaptation of Sheridan Morley’s Noël & Gertie to the Towngate Theatre in Basildon on Wednesday 8 March @ 2.30pm & 7.30pm.
Noël & Gertie chronicles the friendship from childhood until her death aged only 54, between actress Gertrude Lawrence and Noël Coward. Noël & Gertie is a love story told with all ‘the Master’s flair and wit in words and song’. The storyline was devised by Sheridan Morley from Noël and Gertie’s diaries and letters and the show features songs, sketches and scenes from some of Coward’s best loved works.
This production creates an intimate setting backstage in the star’s dressing rooms which allows the audience to pick up every smirk, every sharp rejoinder and every subtly raised eyebrow. But the cast of just two – accompanied by a pianist – can easily hold their own on a main house stage. After all, the intense power of the character’s huge personalities and their complex, affectionate and tempestuous relationship is bigger than any theatre.
We’ve got two pairs of tickets up for grabs for this sparkling production, for a chance to win, simply enter your details above.
